I found a group of writers through EventBrite

For those that don't know, Eventbrite is a site and app designed to share local events happening, from job fairs, to workshops, to movie nights, and more. I heard about a writer meet-up not far from my house and went this Saturday. As expected, a group of writers were fairly quiet. While extraverted writers do exist, they seem few and far between.
We mostly sat, working on our writing, and near the end a few of us shared their work.
I didn't this time, too nervous about the projection of my voice, it's been so long since I've given a presentation, much less on a stage. But I did plan out the first few sentences I could say before reading an excerpt from the story I wrote. I could have said something amusing, which may not have read as amusing to people who don't get my some-what deadpan observational humor.
"This is my second time on stage, the first time was in 6th grade for a school play, and I puked during rehearsals, so let's hope this goes better. But fair warning front row, you're in the splash zone..." and continue with telling them about myself and the story I started, a newer idea that started from a resume writing sample for some video game company looking for writers, who ghosted me immediately, but I like the story, fuck what those guys think.
I do suggest using sites like Eventbrite or Meet up to meet your people in your area (not sponsored).
This particular writer's group has their own zine (online magazine) for publishing art and writing. While it's not a paid thing, it's still nice to try to get my name out there. And could help me write more. I look forward to seeing how the group helps each other.
I'm working on my weekly word count already.
