Exciting news about my writing

Earlier this week I wrote a letter to the editor of one of my local papers. I thought there's no way I'm getting accepted, I'm not even a subscriber, and I'm fairly new to the area. Well a few days later, I saw my letter posted to their website. Unclear if they print the letters to the editor in the physical version of the paper, but it's pretty cool I got my little excerpt on their site. 250 words or less, a short opinion piece on how hard it can be to find employment, even after going to school and getting an education. While a letter to the editor isn't as fancy as a peer-reviewed journal or getting published in a big national paper, I'm still happy a little local paper thought my writing was worthy of adding to their site. They have a rule about publishing someone once every 30-days, so I'm already thinking up what I can write for next month. Perhaps I could write about what it feels like after graduating college? Without classes and homework to occupy my time, I'm finding I need to find things to do on my own, and who knows what these little letters could lead to. At the very least, I can practice my writing, and get my name out there a bit.
