Volunteering

I'll be volunteering...

I recently signed up to volunteer at a nearby film festival, in a few weeks is online orientation, and then a few weeks of open shifts. I normally don't like giving my time and effort away for free, (screw you unpaid internships), but I want to break into the film and entertainment industry someday, so taking some time out of my day to learn a bit more about film festivals and such will be good. I don't mind volunteering when it's something I like, and something I might actually learn some things, and maybe meet a cool person or two. I currently have two shifts as a member of the ballot team (the idea of spending a few hours on the phone with customers made me cringe a bit) I figure counting ballots likely won't require too much customer interaction, that can be exhausting after all. They hold a festival twice a year, once for full length films, once for short films, so if I like it, I can volunteer in a few months again, maybe working up the nerve to interact with some customers, I don't know if I can go a whole 4-hour shift dealing with people?

Not only can I learn a bit more about how film festivals operate, but employers love to see people willing to work for free (as if I would ever work for them for free). I'll let you guys know how the experience goes, fingers crossed they're chill people and understand I ask question for clarification so I feel comfortable working independently as quickly as I can, not to be annoying.
